Eavesdropper Bulletin Updated August 24 2025.

It's a bit of a late start to the bulletin, but it's ok, orientation starts today and so, if you want to, acquaint thyself with some of the materials:
Note: Tolkien's style is very atypical of the way people are accustomed to write todady and at first reading may be a little slow to understand (think Shakespeare, Chaucer, Beowulf as these reach back into old English and provide a linguistic history of our own language.)
main text: on Faerie Stories
Smith of Wooten Major (how Tolkien met the angels)
Leaf by Niggle (why he put off making peace with Parish and going to Purgatory),
Farmer Giles of Ham (the story of Sam the huge hero writ short) if you want to do an orientation about the class. It's not obligatory. You can also choose different materials if they have to do with the origins of angels/faerie. You can also investigate the idea that God and the angels made the universe out of music, which is Tolkeins' Silmarilion thesis but he had a really difficult time getting anyone to publish it.
