SUMMER BREAK 2018
GARDENS/JARDINES: Remember: This is a garden cooperative, not a garden war, and there are no prizes for the biggest squash.
If some stuff didn't come out so great, that's how we learn.

Some of the garden pictures have arrived and we'll upload them soon!
Thanks to our garden crews who took time out of their days and space out of their yards to use all our donated seed packets as well as donated plants, some of which will sprout in spring (hopefully).

CHALMA: A lot of us had time to catch up with friends and family and chill out, muchas veces el brek es el momento de desfrutar la compania y amistad de nuestros amigos y queridos and we are glad for that.
Of course we all are grateful to the pilgrims who made the long annual trek to Chalma for the feast of St Augustin, 8.28.to pray for the needs of all of us, particularly the sick and those who are suffering in any way.
These brave pilgrims sleep outside on the ground during their trek into the mountain, whether they have tents and sleeping blankets or not.
This is part of the pilgrimage experience (and we might add that we tried to send a sleeping bag last year and it was stolen, unfortunately, en route to its intended destination in Xochimilco, Colonia San Marco.)
LA MANDA:
La primera photo es el monte de las cruces, donde se deja una cruz por honrar el senyor de chalma por un favor que el concedio-La Manda.
The first photo is a picture of a place known as "las cruces" where people bring crosses at any time of year, and leave them on the hill in exchange for an answered prayer.
This picture was taken either this year or last year.
This devotional practice is called "La Manda".
When the pilgrims make it to Chalma they bathe in the famed waters of the sacred spring which has been sacred to the Aztec people for thousands of years.
This year, we prayed for one of our beloved godfathers who is in all of our hearts at this time.
We are looking into whether there are photos of this pilgrimage this year but for now, here.



GABUZZO PROJECT: Some of us northerners spent a lot of time listening to THE LOT RADIO and discussing Sicilian culture and cooking, Neapolitan pizza traditions, Italian disco and protest music, folk music from calabria and the south generally, wine production, and the design of beautiful Italian sports cars such as the Ferrari, Bugatti, Lamborghini and Mazerati.

SPRING BREAK 2018

THE GRADUATION: The graduation date for the Spring Trimester programs was April 25, 2018.
In honor of this we have posted a video on the Walden Hompepage, the video on venice and Xochi, which comes from Lic. Lanciano but is the fruit of all of our study and labor.
It is about the need to preserve our precious waters, whether we regard them as sacred or not, for without clean water we will all die.

THE VACATION: We are very proud of all the work we did this spring, and we sure earned a vacation!
Part of being a gardener is taking the time to look at the garden, and rejoicing about how beautiful the garden is.

Even if we don't have the money to charter a yacht off the Mediterranean coast, if we have contributed to the beauty of the earth, then, it belongs to us as well.
(The kind of dreaming reflected here is not escapism; Tolkien calls it recovery, hope and consolation.)
THE DELAY: This summer was kind of blown apart so we never got to upload these photos! We will upload until they are all here
