VAPE WEEK TEN: THE PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION

HOME

WHO IS JACQUES RANCIERE?
AND WHY ARE SO MANY PEOPLE ADDICTED TO OPIODS?
AND IS THERE A CONNECTION?

School is supposed to teach you useful information that will help you in life.
Unfortunately, school has often helped to rob us of happiness, not only because it is a "drudgery" at times, but because it fails to teach us why we are alive, or give us hope.
Not surprisingly, it is during the years of formal schooling that most drug addicts first pick up the habit.
Therefore, a bit of material in this area is appropriate here.
Though it may give us pain, this week we should read DRUGS: A TRUE ITALIAN TRAGEDY, written in July 1975.

SELLING SMARTS
One of the problems with our system of education is similar to one of our problems generally.
The price just goes up and up, because greed is innate in our souls.
We "commodify" everything so we or someone else can "consume" it and then throw away what's left over.
The system of education in a way is designed to teach us to love consumerism. We don't have anyone to blame but --well--go back to week one of Pasolini or week one of Thoreau.
No one should have to live without adequate food and clothing and shelter and medical care --and now, access to the internet--but beyond that---

TRY NOT TO BUY
Just for this week, let's try not to buy anything online. If you absolutely need to, well so be it, but drugs are not only pharmaceuticals.
We know we can give ourselves a rush in a million ways and when we become slaves to any of those ways, we give away our freedom and we can never be happy.
