Mission

When the mission was conceived of as to a small audience, it was pitched as threefold, at one point using the ficitious story of Leon and Matilda to give it a structure because stories are often good models while being "safe" because fictional. The company would mobilize the goodness of the Matildas of the world, that is, i giovanni infelici, (See PPP, Giussani, Assisi. For those who wonder how Pasolini had a religious epiphany of sorts, he went to Assisi so check Damians Domains.) cheer them up, protect and educate them and give them a home and a road to heaven. While we acknowledge the film's problematic aspects, and recognize that the Abbe Pierre whom Reno supported is under investigation like so many philanthropic figures ("E" comes to mind), Jean Reno's influence on the script and on Besson is something the Valanga admires within that context. Leon is fashioned as a sort of sacrificial Christ like character in some senses and his possible improper romance with Matilda is turned into a paternal love which leads her in the right road.
