ENGLISH LITERATURE

THE CANTURBURY TALES

For participants who ultimately look to complete the four year program, this course is recommended for third year participants or "junors".
The second half of the trimester will focus on the Canturbury Tales
and those who are interested can join the corresponding summer adventure, "Then Longen Folk to Go on Pilgrimages".

Most people think of English literature as beginning with the Canturbury Tales,
which are a mocking parody of the then popular pilgrimages of Christians to Canturbury Cathedral.
To put the material in context, we present the movie, BECKET, about the murder of the archbishop which was a huge moment in English history and therefore in English literature.

Students of the literature of Western Europe are also by default students of the clashes of tribes, gods, cities, the Christian philosophy, Greek influence,
and innumerable other factors which an introduction can only hope to distill.
